Out Of The Cocoon
So several months ago, back when the world looked a little different and making plans for the future based on assumption was still a thing, I may have confidently made some lofty post announcing my forthcoming emergence from the cocoon in 2020 with the release of a bunch of songs I’d been working on forever.
Release plans & videos were indeed underway, combined with a trip Stateside in the Spring, etc etc, blah blah blah…. But as some of you may have noticed, it seemed the universe had other plans that didn’t align with my own. HOW DARE IT!
So just to update, in case you hadn’t already guessed, things got held up a little and I had to pop back into the cocoon to marinate for a bit longer as more self-inquiry (and hair growth) was required.
Amidst the process of that, some new songs and artistic collaborations have also been emerging and I hope to share some glimpses of those soon…

As I write this, I’m reminded somewhat of the scene in the brilliant musical mockumentary Spinal Tap where in an ambitious feat of egoic production values, the band members individually plan to emerge live onstage from alien cocoons for their rousing rendition of “Rock n Roll Creation”… But due to an unfortunate technical error, bassist Derek Small’s cocoon fails to open. As a result he is condemned to play out the duration of the song locked in his own transparent plastic isolation
Perhaps the forced time alone in his plastic cocoon provided dear Derek Smalls with the personal revelations & epiphanies he needed to eventually evolve past some of his old patterns – Who knows what’s really good for us?

Some things I’ve been learning over the last few months- Embrace the present moment, sit with the old pain as a teacher, acknowledge & feel the buried grief and learn how to heal. Practice gratitude and spread the love (but not the virus) as best as you are able, as we are all connected, but perhaps above all……Don’t take yourself so bloody seriously.
